Hand-built glazed porcelain and found objects
(Each balloon is approximately 8 x 6 x 3 inches)
In this installation, I focus on the influence social media has on women and girls self esteems, as well as their identities. Each phrase on each balloon represent comments I found on selfies and pictures posted on Instagram. These comments can easily form the grounds necessary for building facade. The balloons are deflated and the adjectives are melting into the test tubes to show how temporary and meaningless these comments are.
Each balloon represents a comment. I choose to build the balloons out of porcelain because this material can be both strong and delicate at the same time. Thus, the dangers of being broken or deflated are perpetually affixed into these comments.
